Borders.

One of my favorite worship songs lately is: 'Oceans (where feet may fail)' by Hillsong United.
I had this song blaring while I painted on Saturday. I thought about how one of the reasons I love to paint is because there are no borders.
I get to put anything I want on that blank canvas.
With each new and different stroke of my brush I watch as colors that were chosen intentionally become the foundation of what I'm creating; they become this array of colors that begin to take on an image. Until that image is complete though, it often looks messy, strange, and a little odd. Sometimes I feel like its a complete waste. Then I remember it's a work in progress and so I start adding the small details, perfecting it bit by bit until its beautiful in its own unique way.
Sometimes I feel like art. I feel messy, strange, and a little odd. But I too am a work in progress- God is not done with me. He is refining me and working out every detail of my life to mold me into His image.
Though my present and my future look a little different than I thought they would, I'm okay with that. It was never about me or the idea I had for my life anyway; His plans are always greater than my plans.
I stumbled across the picture above somewhere on instagram and I just love that quote. It's so easy to let our negative circumstances define us and allow the pain, fear, and anxiety of life get the best of us. The truth is we live in a sinful, fallen world where there is pain and fear abounding-there's no getting around that, but I do still believe it to be a beautiful place.
I believe that because it's the place that God has provided for me; it's my lot in this small infinity and it's the lot in which He is going to carry out His plan for my life.
I don't know exactly how He is going to work out the small details in my life, but I know that He is good and He is sovereign.
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Romans 8:28
My biggest prayer as I step out and trust Him with the details is this part of the song 'Oceans'.
''Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior
I will call upon Your name
Keep my eyes above the waves
My soul will rest in Your embrace
I am Yours and You are mine"
